I didn't read the whole book but I remember LOVING the opening of Dos Passos MANHATTAN TRANSFER. A local guy telling the main character to get better clothes: "It's looks that counts in this city." Something like that .... I think the 1920s was peak NYC.

I recently came across a tiktok account that tallies all of the drinks that worldoftshirts consumes in his videos. I didn’t even know who he was until I found this account, but now I’m completely invested in his life

This list made me tear up - I moved to NYC from the South 6 years ago for college, moved out of town for a bit, then moved back. There's a scene at the end of the most recent Tom Holland Spiderman movie, where it shows him starting over, moving into a new shoebox apartment. The NYC of Ghostbusters (1984) caught my imagination as far back as middle school... Now its NYC for life or bust. No where else makes me cry. You have to try to have it all.
